It’s an arduous task and to do it gracefully, they must learn to speak the words within language that keep them forever new. Rappers attempt, in this thing called lyricism, to express the inexpressible. Is that thing that has gone terribly wrong a perspective that has been over-developed to the point that evidence to the contrary cannot come in? I think not. Music is supposed to be great, or able-bodied at the very least, and when it’s not, it is because something has gone terribly awry. Whether or not he wants the responsibility matters none. While most of us are creatures of habit and don’t do well with change, be grateful that we have Joe Budden to hold our hand and be our moral compass. It’s never easy taking on the entrenched and falsely entitled so who will save our souls from mumble rap in 2019? Whether us old heads who view the landscape of artistry through OG eyes like it or not, there has been a changing of the guards in rap music. From a machine driven by radio air play and big name record labels, Wayne broke all the rules, opened the floodgates to mixtape madness with the internet as the conduit, and eliminated the need for the middle man. It wasn’t until one man by the name of Dwayne Carter, otherwise known as Lil’ Wayne, stepped up in the early 2000’s to perform heart surgery and give us life, changing the music industry forever. We’ve been at this fork in the road before – having to pull the plug and call “time of death” on hip-hop. His diss track is one of the many examples of his efforts to make all his. For example, although mumble rap may be more monotonous in terms or subject matter, lyrical rappers do tend to touch upon subjects such as having sex with many women, getting money, killing other people, growing up poor, or really being about that life just as much as mumble rappers tend to.
